Spring Cleaning Out My Closet

Spring Cleaning Out My Closet

My current closet is a hodgepodge of items from different times in my life.

I have dresses from my 20's, corporate clothing from my work life, maternity wear, my stay at home mom wardrobe and then there's everything in between.

Needless to say my closet is busting at the seams and needs a good clean out!

How do you know what to get rid of and what to hang on to. There are of course all the items that you keep because you might wear it to a wedding, on vacation, date nite drinks someday. But for now it's just hanging there.

I asked my friend, whose closet always has the perfect balance of current items, classics and favorites without being overstuffed, to share her method of knowing what to keep and what to get rid of.

Her answer was so obvious I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner!

"If I haven't worn it for a year I get rid of it."

Makes sense! If that all season cardigan has been on the hanger for a year without being touched.....chances are you probably won't wear it again. So why not give it away and make room for a new item that you'll wear to death!

There are all sorts of other benefits to getting rid of your stuff (besides justifying a shopping excursion).

Donating the items will allow you to take a tax write off. Selling them to a consignment shop could put a little extra change in your pocket.

If your still having trouble parting with the items try gifting them to Dress For Success. You'll feel great knowing that you closet is assisting another women with achieving her career dreams!

Best part is when all is said and done having less in your closet makes it easier to figure out what to wear.
