Family Day At The Intrepid
Marcelo and I have been going into the city once a month with Leo for a family Day.
A few weeks ago my father asked if we would want to go with him to The Intrepid for a movie screening then we could explore afterwards.
I was lucky enough to see the space shuttle Enterprise flown and docked onto the Intrepid a few years ago and have been wanting to visit ever since. Leo's been becoming more and more like a little boy lately. He gets so excited whenever he sees a truck. Cars are always the first toys he goes after from the toy bin. So we thought it would be really exciting for him to spend the day on a HUGE ship.
Our only worry was getting through a 75 minute documentary with a 10 month old.
When we arrived at the screening room no one batted an eye. Marcelo and I came prepared with snacks, juice, toys that don't make sounds. What we didn't count on was Leo not wanting to sit still.
It wasn't so bad at first. Leo just toddled around back and forth between Marcelo and I. But then it turned into a game with Leo laughing and babbling. The movie content was so serious we had to scoop him up and go.
That meant we got some time to explore just the 3 of us. The Intrepid has an amazing kids section with interactive displays.
They have a space shuttle pod to climb into, a jet you can pretend to steer. A ship and submarine when Leo flipped the switches all kinds of noises and blinking lights. Fun! His favorite though was the helicopter.
When the documentary was over we all met up and explored the other decks. The whole ship is set up so you can walk through and see how and where everyone worked and lived.
We had to skip the flight deck since it was too cold and windy for Leo. But we definitely going back once it warms up. I can't wait to see his reaction to all those planes!
