Oscar Prediction: Best Picture
There is no doubt that this was one of those extraordinary years where the abundance of great films left you wondering how they could choose just one.
If you don't know who to root for yet take a look here to see who's nominated in each category.
La La Land
Hell Or High Water
Manchester By The Sea Fences
Out of nine amazing movies Fences was the only nominated film I was unable to see. Not bad for a woman with a baby under 1 year old!
Still based on the pictures I did see and the buzz surrounding each film I feel that the award comes down to two movies.
La La Land and Moonlight.
Moonlight is an amazing film. Simple, honest, well written directed & acted. The pathway of a life from boy to man told at three significant times of his life. I don't think I've seen another film that makes you feel as if you know the people and places so well. It's as if you have been watching their story unfold piece by piece each day.
La La Land is equally well made, directed and acted. The two movies are on completely different playing fields. La La Land uses comedy and song to reach the audience while utilizing Hollywood techniques such as a meaningful stare at a love interest over a swelling score. Emma Watson and Ryan Gosling are the film and the make the film. Based on the title it's everything you would hope for it to be.
When it comes down to it I feel Moonlight should win Best Picture. It will without a doubt take home several awards for other categories. But I think La La Land will sweep the Oscar's walking away with the Best Picture prize. It's the type of movie people think of when they think Oscar. The large musical numbers. Set in the LA movie industry. The love story, not to mention it's ability to take you back to the time in your life when you were young, starting out, broke and still thinking about chasing a dream.
In addition to that there are two established actors in the film who have a standing relationship with the academy. And a large studio is behind the Picture campaigning for this prize.
None of this makes the film any less deserving of the Best Picture title. Either way I do feel that Moonlight is the best of this years selection.
I can't wait to see who else wins and what everyone wears.
Have A Great Weekend!
