First Family Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Since my mother is under the weather I am in charge of hosting this year.
My biggest fear is that I will set the turkey on fire......again! (Yep that happened)
I've been asking around for some tips. I don't want to spend all my time running back and forth from the kitchen. Especially since this is our first Thanksgiving with Hunny Bunny. I'd prefer to be at the table as much as possible.
The best advice I keep receiving is to keep it simple. From table setting to the turkey, make the sides ahead of time. Most important when people ask what they can bring assign them a dish!
My cousin makes amazing vegetables and my mother-in-law loves to bake so I have assigned those two courses to them.
Appetizers always take the most time to prepare and at a meal like Thanksgiving there will be so much food you don't really need them anyway.
Nora Ephron used to just put out a can of nuts. I'm going to do an assortment of nuts with a fancy cheese like Stilton and some grapes. Family can enjoy a glass of wine with their snack while I'm heating up the side dishes for the main event.
Side Dishes are always the most abundant on the Thanksgiving table.
My must have for Thanksgiving Day is always Mac & Cheese. Aside from that I don't plan to go to crazy with the side dishes.
String Beans for crunch
Creamy and delicious mashed potatoes with sour cream and scallions
If you love to bake and want to make apple pie I highly recommend this recipe
Last off the most adorable Thanksgiving outfit for our special guy
Once you sit down don't forget to sit back and enjoy. Years from now you'll remember the joke your whole family laughed at more than the food.
YUM! I can't wait for the big day!
